It’s heartbreaking to watch your preteen struggle—
feeling easily frustrated, battling negative self-talk, dealing with constant worries, and breaking down over seemingly small things like picking out clothes or starting homework.
You might be wondering: Why do they react this way? And, why can’t I help them calm down?
You’re not alone in this. As a mom, it’s overwhelming to see their emotions escalate and feel like nothing you do helps.
But here’s the truth:
Your child's preteen years are crucial for building their confidence, emotional regulation, and self-worth. If these skills aren’t developed now, they could follow them into their teenage years and beyond.
I’M HERE TO HELP PROVIDE THE SUPPORT YOU HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR!
Schedule Your Free 20 Minute Phone ConsultationSure we can teach our children to take a deep breath, count to calm down, take a break, even create a calm-down kit and help them problem solve to no ends.

We need to uncover the real questions:
>> Why are they feeling so overwhelmed and anxious?
>> Why are they so frustrated?
>> Why are they struggling to calm down?
>> Why are they constantly at their boiling point?
The answer…
WE NEED TO GO DEEPER.
We need to explore under the surface.
Under the emotional reactions and behaviors you are seeing.
We need to dive deep into what is actually happening in their mind and body.
And we’re not going to get there by just sitting, talking and trying to pull it out of them.
We do this by meeting them where they are and using their LOVE OF ART to drive the conversation.

Creating an environment where they feel safe to explore in a way that also feels creative, engaging and fun.
Â
I get that it seems really overwhelming and you’re probably feeling like you’ve tried everything else from reading books, talking to their doctor and teacher, listening to podcasts, talk therapy, but nothing has worked.
In my art therapy practice...
I utilize a holistic, client centered, strengths-based approach drawing from a variety of interventions, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, art therapy, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy and heart-centered approach meeting clients right where they are.
And I provide you, the parent, with tools along the way to bridge their sessions with you at home.
There’s a powerful shift that happens when our children learn the VITAL SKILLS to support their mental health.
They simply need someone to meet them where they are, listen & guide them through those first steps. And with the right tools, they are 100% capable of being their positive, calm selves enjoying life again.
Today, I'm inviting you to schedule a FREE consultation with me to see if working together is the best option for your child.Â

Step 1:
You’ll start off by scheduling your free, 20-minute phone consultation. We'll skip the phone tag by following the link to my online scheduler where you will select a time that works for you. Save the time in your calendar. I’ll call you then!

Step 2:
During your call, I’ll ask you questions to gain deeper understanding and allow you to ask me anything so that we can see if we’re a good fit for each other. It's often best to just meet with a parent for this call, however, your child is welcome to join the call.

Step 3:
After your consultation, I’ll email you a link to your client portal where you can complete the paperwork. You’ll also receive an email with suggested art supplies and a link to the virtual “waiting room,” you’ll use this same link for every session.

Step 4:
Create a quiet space for your child with a sketchbook and their choice of art supplies. A few minutes before their session, you’ll click the link to enter the "waiting room." It will look just like Zoom, only it will be a secure connection to ensure privacy.
Hi there! I'm so glad you've found me here.Â
I'm Kayla Helenske, a Nationally Registered Art Therapist, Licensed Mental Health Counselor (WA & FL), Licensed Professional Counselor (SC), Holistic Wellness Coach and Mom of 4.
For over a decade I’ve been helping preteens and moms in therapy to EMPOWER themselves with the VITAL TOOLS to support their mental wellness.
My signature method provides families with the tools they need to thrive by getting to the root cause of behavioral & emotional struggles through Calming the Nervous System, Empowering Emotional Expression, Building Confidence & Fostering Connection in everyday life.

Why a holistic approach?
We want to uncover the root cause of your child's stress, anxiety and roller coaster of emotions so they can calm their nervous system, express their feelings in a healthy way & rewire their thoughts to break the cycle- forever.Â
Without tangible, actionable steps to help your child process and release their thoughts and feelings, there can’t be long-term healing or growth.
The clients I work best with are ones who are ready for change and have an open mind for learning new tools and strategies. I also provide you as the parent, with new tools and strategies via parenting calls and mental wellness guides to print and use at home.
Â
After over a decade of experience as an art therapist, I have created a therapeutic approach that uses:
ART THERAPY + MINDFULNESS to help your child to:
>> Connect to themselves
>> Discover tools that help them to calm their nervous system
>> Express their thoughts and feelings in a healthy way
>> Increase their self-esteem + confidence
>> Establish a lifestyle that helps to support their mental health.Â

I know what it's like to be tired of the frustrations, when all you want is your child to feel happy and a home full of peace and understanding.Â
You don't want to spend another day stuck where you are. I've helped other concerned families get there and can do the same for you. Schedule your free consultation to see if having me working with your child is the right fit for all of us.
I look forward to connecting with you.
